Time and Place
Time and Place explores the connection between memory, atmosphere and location. Drawing upon personal experiences of living and travelling throughout Japan, each work distils a specific place into simplified visual elements rather than literal representation. Architectural fragments, reflections and geometric patterns become vessels for memory, capturing the emotional essence of a moment rather than its exact appearance. The collection is informed by Wabi-Sabi, the appreciation of impermanence and transience, and Ma, the space between things where meaning emerges. These works reflect how places are remembered: incomplete, fragmented and continually reshaped by time. Through restraint and reduction, the paintings invite viewers to reflect upon their own experiences of place and belonging.
